Why I am Running
More about MatthewI have spent my career as a frontline healthcare professional, and I am based at the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital. As a director of the Health Sciences Association of BC, I represent roughly 2,300 healthcare and social service workers across Vancouver Island. I am proud to call Nanaimo home, and I intend to raise my family here one day.
Advocating for improved access to healthcare and social services is what brought me into this race. Approximately one in five Nanaimo residents do not have a primary care provider. Our regional transit network does not adequately connect our hospital to the people who need to travel there. Existing childcare hours do not accommodate the essential shift workers who we desperately need to recruit and retain in our city.

My Priorities
View allThree priorities for my term on Nanaimo City Council, all of which are greatly needed by residents of our city. My goal will be to collaborate with the other councillors to advance concrete initiatives in these areas. A city that takes a leadership role in providing better access to primary care, an improved transportation system, and childcare facilities that cater to all families is a hope shared by many.
Improved Transportation Network
A public transit system that works for youth, seniors, and families.

Flexible childcare hours, seven days a week, open to everyone.

Beyond my three priorities, I have clear positions on the files the next council will face, and a longer-term vision for what the city of Nanaimo can become.
